A master of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of wood block painting, artist Kitagawa Utamaro is best known for his for his bijin ōkubi-e  or "large-headed pictures of beautiful women" of the 1790s. However in this piece we have a elegantly hand painted poem by Utamaro, taken from his book, Flowers of the Four Seasons.
